About Mintlights
Mintlights is a music project created by Lux Izquierdo that started in 2015. Lux was born and raised in Queretaro, Mexico, but moved to Michigan in 2014, where Mintlights was created. The name Mintlights comes from Lux’s synesthesia when listening to music, which usually comes as lights in minty colors (cool greens, blues, and purples).
Artistic influences for this project are: Queen, Paramore, Jonas Brothers, Fall Out Boy, and Tegan & Sara.
My Story
Hi! Welcome to my website!

I see you are interested in my back story. Here's more about me and my music project Mintlights:

I was born and raised in Queretaro, Mexico. My dad was a pianist, and my mom a gymnast, dancer, and fitness trainer. Most of my aunts, uncles, and cousins, learned how to play piano from a young age, so you can say we are a musical family.

Singing came to me naturally. I joined my kindergarten choir and continued that journey til the 6th grade. After elementary, I signed up for voice lessons at our community center, since my school didn't offer any musical program in middle school or high school. Later on, my cousin, the singer, Paulina Izquierdo, opened a music academy, where she would give me voice lessons in exchange for beginner and intermediate piano lessons.
I was interested in learning how to play piano after hearing my dad play Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata. He taught me the basics, and when he taught me everything he knew, my mom signed me up for piano lessons at the age of 8.
After my first couple of years into piano lessons, my interest expanded to guitar playing. When I was 13, my group of friends had started guitar lessons, and one of them invited me to one of her lessons, which turned out to be my first one. I didn't have a guitar, but my uncle did, so every time I visited him I would borrow it and go to YouTube (circa early 2000s) for tutorials.

In 2011, I joined my first band Zombies' Saturday. We performed at events in Downtown Queretaro as well as rock festivals. At the same time, a friend of mine and I wrote Without a Sound, my most popular song. The band added guitar, bass, and drums arrangements later on. Zombies' Saturday dissolved after two years, when our drummer went to college. One of the guitarists and I formed an acoustic duet named Arquianiz. We would also perform at events and festivals until I moved to Michigan in 2014.

Between 2014 and 2015, I worked on making my musical act my own. However, I needed a catchier name for performing. At this time, I learned about what synesthesia was, and was able to name a condition I didn't know was unique to only some people. Whenever I listened to music and closed my eyes, I would se streaks of colors rather than seeing a story in my head. This inspired the name Mintlights, which would soon become my definite name in 2015.

Throughout the years, I have written several songs. All of them depict my experiences through life, love, loss, and mental health. Currently, I'm working on my first album, which will include all of my best acoustic songs I've written from 2011 to present day. So keep an eye out on my social media and my artist profiles anywhere you stream music on!

Thank you for reading my story, I hope you enjoyed learning more about who I am as a musician, and that you love and relate to my music.

Best,
